Such activity around the fireplace as a focal point warrants making a fireplace a safe place. Fireplace screens are an integral part of a fireplace and ensure that your home remains safe. Fireplace screens protect children, pets, and the surrounding floors from fire and the snapping embers. They may be built from steel, brass, wrought iron, copper, glass, stained glass and polished iron. Fireplace screens can be practical and plain. Elaborately crafted fireplace screens may serve as exquisite pieces of art but are not really practical for containing a fire.
Size of the fireplace screen: The fireplace screen should be at least twelve inches away from the heat source. Generally the fireplace screen should stand a minimum of five inches taller than the fireplace and one foot broader on either side.
