Large Format Touch Screen Displays Are The Now of Digital Advertisements and Scalable Too
It is a common feeling that bigger is better and occasionally that is the truth. When it comes to touch screens the same is true and often misleading. Before you can determine what a big touch screen is you need to evaluate your space. With the ability to create 200" or larger touch screens you will need a reference point.
The answer is relative to the space that it is going to be placed in. There is no one single answer and it is important to communicate that from the beginning. For a small smoothie shop in a local strip mall, it may be a 30" display system. For a corporate lobby with a little more square footage, it might be a 60"-80" diagonal screen.
When working on a trade-show booth or display, museum exhibit, industrial facility, or public arena, a Big Touch Screen size will probably be in the 100"- 120" diagonal screen surface. A kiosk in the mall may require a 20" diagonal size while a retail store in the mall would need a large touch screen, with a 60" diagonal screen.
To determine what "Big" will mean to you and your space, it will be relative to the size of your facility. With standard Touch Screen Sizes ranging from 30" to 122" diagonal for thru-glass touch screen films and 30" - 220" for multi-touch Infrared IR Bezels, there is a standard size to accommodate almost any customer request.
Although most customer requests can be appropriately fulfilled with a standard product, quality interactive touch screen manufacturers offer custom sizes and aspect ratios to fit most any need. Recently SSI designed and integrated the world's largest "TRUE" multi-touch large format touch screen at a viewable size of 7' x 17' in an industrial facility.
This touch screen surface is a custom rear projection multi-touch display incorporating an Infrared IR Bezel and rear projection film on glass. Although not everyone may need a "BIG" touch screen of that size. It is nice to know that if you do, it has been done before.
A common misunderstanding and misconception about touch screens is the difference between single, dual and true multi-touch. As you approach the idea or implementation of a big or large format touch screen you will want to address this question to avoid significant ghost points and insufficient touch points for the size of the screen.
If you are planning on more than one person interacting with the screen at one time, this is a very important point to address from the beginning. A common big touch screen for retail storefront windows is 40"-65". This type of touch screen system is called thru-glass touch screen film on glass and will most likely involve the integration of rear projection film.
This simple yet powerful solution is being utilized by local and international brands and chain stores to create an interactive user experience. This technology is non-threatening to retail traffic and can be installed and fully operational in just a couple of hours.
A manufacturing facility had a recent installation of a 100" wide screen thru-glass touch screen film and rear projection film. This big touch screen system is being used for client presentations, project status updates, and more; before this system was in place the client would have to walk out onto the plant floor to physically see the progress of their product.
Although there is a place for that type of presentation it does not lend itself to impressing multimillion dollar clients like a large format big touch screen display with actual media in high definition.
Traditional or custom, a big touch screen is not only conceivable but also realistic and readily available.
When using a film type touch screen it is applied to a surface and the display or projection surface is placed behind it. When using a bezel you will place it directly over the top of the display surface instead of behind it; both varieties have their own strengths and weaknesses and it is important that you determine your application and requirements prior to purchasing your equipment.

Amphiprion ephippium Fire Clownfish $24.99 Fire Clownfish ( Amphiprion ephippium ) are also known as Saddle Clowns and range in color from bright orange to deep red. Adults may have a black patch on the sides of their bodies - especially in older, mature fish - and lack the characteristic white stripes of most common clowns. Juveniles lack the dark patch and may have a white bar behind the head similar to Tomato Clowns ( A. frenatus ) and Cinnamon Clowns ( A. melanopus ). They are somewhat hardy, but tend to be very sensitive to copper and other heavy metals. Clownfish are some of the hardiest and most traditional fish for marine aquariums. They generally come from two genuses - most are in the genus Amphiprion with one species in the genus Premnas - and all are found in the Pomacentridae family along with damsels and chromises. They are some of the mostly widely tankraised fish, leading to more man-made variations becoming available like Misbars and Albinos as species are selectively bred and crossed. It is usually best to keep one clownfish per tank, though a pair can sometimes be kept if one is significantly smaller than the other or are about the same size when added as juveniles. One fish will develop into a female and become larger in size while the other (or others, in large tanks) will remain male. As the fish mature, they may also become aggressive towards new arrivals (or hands in the tank), so be prepared for aggression to follow even if the new fish is large in size. Mixing tankraised and wild-caught individuals is generally not recommended since their immunity and exposure to diseases and parasites may be different. Clownfish are generally not fussy eaters, and will accept a range of frozen and prepared foods like flakes, pellets, and frozen formulas. They can benefit from some plant matter in their diet, although they are not considered herbivores and do need some meaty foods. Some clownfish can be sensitive to toxins, especially heavy metal based medications like copper. Though the interaction between anemones and clownfish is amusing to watch, it is not necessary to the survival of either animal. Some clownfish will only host in specific anemones and vice versa. A host anemone should generally have a diameter of at least twice the length of the clownfish when introduced together for the best health of both the clownfish and the anemone. Tankraised fish can also be less likely to use a host anemone than wild-caught fish. Visit That Fish Blog for more information from our marine biologists on clownfish social structure and gender , anemone selection and preferences and other clownfish-related topics. |

Distichopora sp. Orange Fire Coral $119.99 Several species of coral are regularly known as "Fire Corals". Distichopora sp. grows in blunt-tipped face-shaped colonies. Stylaster sp. has pointed tips on its branching colonies. Millepora sp. has a variety of forms and is the most notorious for delivering a powerful sting if touched. Stylaster and Distichopora are both filter-feeders and are not photosynthetic. They should be spot fed regularly and placed in moderate to high water flow, preferably in a low-light or overhang placement. They have a hard calcium carbonate exoskeleton and race mineral and calcium levels in the aquarium should be monitored for proper growth of the coral. Millepora is photosynthetic and needs moderate to high lighting and flow. Stylaster and Distichopora are both nonaggressive and very sensitive, delicate corals. Millepora is much hardier but is also much more aggressive. |

Astropyga radiata Rainbow Fire Urchin $49.99 These urchins have magnificent coloration, but they can deliver a powerfully painful and venomous sting. This urchin is also known as the Radiating Hatpin Urchin, and the spines are long and sharp, constantly moving, and irregularly distributed. These spines are usually banded in orange and white, darkening to red towards the tips. There are radiating rows of electric blue dots that decorate the body. In the wild, these urchins play host to a variety of other organisms including commensal shrimp, crabs, and cardinalfish that find solace from predators within the urchins' spines during daylight hours. This fascinating relationship must be a sight to see! Use extreme caution to avoid contact with this urchin. Must stings comes from accidental contact with the urchin because the aquarist was not aware where it was in the aquarium. Medical attention may be necessary if stung by this urchin. |

Colisa lalia Red Fire Dwarf Gourami $4.99 The Red Fire Gourami is another type of dwarf gourami mutation that has been brought about by selective breeding. In general the fish will have a deep red to orange ventral side that fades slightly as you move to the dorsal side of the fish. The dorsal fin and caudal fin are almost completely clear except for some red markings found intermittently throughout the dorsal fin. As with all other dwarf gourami variants, the color of these fish can be highly variable and may not exactly resemble the one pictured above. Gouramis have an internal organ called the labyrinth organ that allows them to breathe atmospheric air. This is an adaptation to the rice paddies and stagnant pools in which these fish often live. All gouramis also have the pelvic fins modified into long filaments that they can use to sense their surroundings. Gouramis are bubble nest breeders and the males will build floating nests out of bubbles that the eggs will be deposited in. Breeding is fairly simple. Male fish have the dorsal fin elongated into a point while females are short and rounded. They will accept a large variety of floating pellet and flake foods. As they get larger they can become aggressive particularly to each other. Tank mates should be chosen to able to handle this aggression. They do well with barbs, loaches, large tetras, and semi-aggressive cichlids. |

Lysmata debelius Fire Cleaner Shrimp - Small $29.99 The Fire Cleaner Shrimp ( Lysmata debeluis ) is blood red with white whiskers and an array of white dots across its shell. This shrimp species prefers cooler temperatures than the more common Skunk Cleaner Shrimp ( Lysmata ambionensis ) and is best kept in a tank between 72 and 78 degrees. "Cleaner" shrimp get their name from their habit of picking external parasites, dead scales and other irritants off of the surface of other fish. Some fish will actively seek out a cleaner shrimp to clean them while others can become irritates or stressed by the shrimp's "good intentions". Cleaner shrimp will also accept other foods like flakes, pellets, algaes, and frozen meaty foods as well as whatever they scavenge from their tank (or tankmates). Shrimp molt their hard outer skeleton to grow and it is not unusuall to find an empty molt in an aquarium with shrimp. Shrimp also can molt under environmental stress such as water changes, rapid changes in conditions or during shipping. Always acclimate shrimp slowly to avoid sudden changes in their environment. Crustaceans like shrimp need well-balanced minerals in their environment to form their shells, particularly iodine and calcium and low nitrate levels. Regular water changes with a quality salt mix are generally enough to replenish any minerals lost to normal environmental sources in the aquarium but supplements can be added to heavily stocked aquariums. This is a Restricted item and is not covered by our Arrive Alive 5-Day Guarantee. Please visit the Guarantee Policy and Restricted Species webpages for more information. |
